it has been go, go, go since i swung my feet off the side of the bed and put both feet down. i got up and went to get my bloodwork done, which is always fun because i've been so many times that i have become friends with the women in the lab and we catch up on life together, and then decided i was going to get my hair fixed from sunday's hair disaster mishap. more money, more time, but i feel much more confident now that i can walk around with a decent hair cut and color job. as i sat in the chair getting my hair pieced apart, foiled, colored, toned, and lightened, i began to wonder what would happen if everyone stopped being so obsessed with fixing flaws, changing looks, and altering appearances. the woman sitting next to me was chatting it up with her hairstylist about how much weight each one of them had lost recently, the methods to their madness, and shared tips like staying under a certain amount (an EXTREMELY unhealthy) amount of calories per day to achieve rapid weight loss. this woman was tall, fake tanned, bleached out blonde, and thin already talking about losing weight and two-for-one plastic surgeries and all of the alterations she would make to herself. she was laughing and joking, yet i know that underneath it all she had to be hurting or deeply insecure. she was trying to fix her internal problem by using surgeries and tanning beds and hairdyes to cover it all up. and then i realized that i do the same thing, only i try to hide and cover up all of my perceived flaws with an eating disorder. maybe, if we all decided to become a little less obsessed with hiding who we really are and covering up the real person underneath, we'd see an increase in happiness, in successful relationships, in dreams achieved, in lives actually being lived to the fullest. maybe it is time to stop being obsessed and start getting real..
so, that's my soapbox for the day..now, i have a date with The Lovely Bones and The Blind Side..what a great night of movies and relaxing. much needed <3
