I'm making the cross-country move to tulsa in 2.5 weeks and i am so nervous! it's a good nervous, as i'm anticipating a big change, but a healthy one. yet, i can't help but feel bittersweet about leaving my home here in orlando. i've been back here since september of 2010 living with my parents so they could help support my recovery, and now that i am in solid recovery i feel like it is time for me to venture back out and test out my wings again. i've had the chance to really reconnect with my parents and mend the fragile relationship i had with them. it has been lonely at times, but i'm glad i moved home for a while. i do think it was the best decision for me at the time.
so, i am opening up a new chapter of my life in 2.5 weeks. i shall call it "a season of health...and tulsa." i absolutely love tulsa...definitely the people but even moreso the city itself. it is a very community oriented city that supports local business and has an urban, crunchy granola (as my future roommate Jess termed it) feel to it. it's smaller than orlando but compact so i will be walking/riding distance to a lot of what i need. i'm going to have to make some major living adjustments when i make the move. i'll be moving in with one of my best friends, Jess, and her other roommate. it's a great little house with wood floors and a loft bedroom that will be mine. it's old school tulsa and feels very homey. i'll have to find work either before or as soon as i get to town so that i can pay rent, gas, groceries etc. but feel confident that i can do so. rent is so reasonable and actually feels doable. i'll also be taking classes at the community college while starting my nursing school applications. the plan for nursing school is still the same, in fact everything will still be as planned except for my geographic location.
a lot of people have asked me if this was an impulse decision...yes and no. i had planned to move back this past spring but had no roommate at the time and there was just no way i could financially afford a one bedroom apartment on my own, so i chose to stay here and save the money. i had it all planned, so i knew this time what i would need to do, where to look for jobs, where to go to school etc. so yes, i made this decision quickly but had been wanting the opportunity to move for a while. and this just feels like such a good set up with no real strings attached so if it doesn't work out then i can always move back...no lease, no serious committments. i forsee it being a good fit, though.
i've already started looking for and applying for jobs in the hopes that i can have prospects by the time i get out to tulsa. i'm only taking with me what i can fit in my car...how adventurous, right? that means i will bring mostly clothes because this girl can't live without her clothes...shoes, too, of course ;) the bedroom is fully furnished so there is no need for me to bring my furniture.
i'm definitely excited for the new opportunities ahead and absolutely love jess, who i will be living with. the only downfall to moving is the dang winters in tulsa. i'm so a florida girl when it comes to driving in snow and such...of course, i do love getting to dress for the winter ;)
it's going to be hard to say goodbye to my parents, who have been such wonderful supports to me since i moved back home and i know they are going to be lonely/sad but if i make it out there, and can do this, it is only because they have helped me gain the strength and tools to do so. oh yea, i will most likely go into a temporary deep depression when i have to say goodbye to my dogs. though i really really want to take piper with me, but i know that it wouldn't be ideal. she has a great life here, with a doggie door that allows for anytime outside access, bentley to keep her company and vice versa, a huge house to run around, a big screen tv to watch, and lots of attention. if i took her, she'd spend a lot of time alone, i'd have to let her out the back door every now and then, and she wouldn't have as much space or as much tv time and trust me, this dog NEEDS tv time. she has a serious addiction problem. so yes, i'm thinking in the best interest of the dog, and my parents (who would sink into a deep depression if i took her!) and leaving her here. my dad says i can have visitation rights, oh mercy!
well, just wanted to give a little life update and share my plans :)
hope everyone has a wonderful evening.
