life lessons via lasagna and other things...

wow.
what a long and utterly exhausting day!
woke up late because i got one of the best nights of sleep in a longgg time, and just couldn't seem to get myself going. even coffee couldn't do it! i think i was still in "bedmode" that i was slinking around the house trying to get breakfast and jump in the shower. i spent the greater part of the morning attempting to study for my anatomy unit exam that i have on tuesday, but was basically unproductive and unsuccessful. after trying to make sense of complete jibberish, i got dressed and headed to the VFW to help my mom on a catering job. we catered for a military ball. ball = an all night event. allow me to back up momentarily...not too long ago i absolutely refused to help my mom with anything food related. i just despised having to cater or work in the restaurant or anything. then, i became jobless and couldn't seem to find one, so guess what? i agreed to cater with her. i guess the need for money trumps the need for relaxation, cleanliness, and everything else i associated with catering. it's ironic, actually. a mantra i have, though rather cliche, is that doing the very thing you least want to do can push you the farthest. as with recovery, it's completely acting opposite time and time again that has helped me sustain my recovery. in life, it usually means studying when i'd rather be sleeping, or going out with friends even though i'm self-conscious, or getting off facebook so i can fill out applications. all are chores for me that take effort and don't have a lot of appeal, but once i do them, i'm so much better off. going out with friends actually makes me feel better in the end. filling out applications can allow me to actually get into school.
i think you get the picture.
well, this goes for catering, too.
i sat around all morning dreading 3:00 and totally psyched myself into already hating the day, but i got there and got busy and before i knew it, it was 7pm and we had just finished serving dinner. by 11, when i finally got home, i was exhausted yes, but i had been productive. and i get an awesome feeling after being productive. not to mention, i have some benjamins coming my way now!
hmm, besides that all is well.
i'm getting SO excited about seeing some of my closest friends in the near future. the tulsa trip, though still almost two months away, has got me so freaking excited. and better yet, i get to fly back in and be greeted by my sweet amazing friend, elysia when i get home! she'll be in town seeing her brother and sister-n-law so it will be a perfect end to an awesome weekend. of course, we are going to hit up O-town in style ;)
i'm so thankful for the amazing friends that i have in my life. we may have met through not-so-wonderful circumstances and our paths crossed simply because we shared the same devestating illness, but we developed a bond deeper than circumstances. a bond that hopefully will not be broken. everyone needs friends who get them, understand them, support them, and love them. it is one of the beautiful gifts in life that we are given.
well, that is about it.
love <3

  2. God never gives us more than we can bear. As Joyce Meyer puts it: "Do it afraid!" ;)
